Chinese manufacturer Chery is the latest to dive into the hotly contested mid-sized SUV market, with confirmation of pricing and specification for the upcoming Tiggo 7 Pro.
Already on sale in other markets, the Tiggo will hit Australian showrooms later this year, as a contender in the premium segment, with even the base 'Urban' model offering a lengthy list of standard equipment.
The full range will offer the Urban, Elite, and Ultimate models, with the range-topping Ultimate bringing All-Wheel-Drive to the table.
The Tiggo Pro 7 will hit the market at $39,990 drive-away for the entry-level Urban, rising to $41,990 for the Elite and $45,990 for the Ultimate AWD version, both of these also drive-away prices.
Power for all models will come from a Euro VI spec 1.6-litre petrol turbo, delivering a reasonable 137 kilowatts at 5,500rpm and 275 Newton-metres of torque at a handy 2,000rpm.
This power will go to ground via a seven-speed dual clutch automated manual, with standardised testing delivering an average fuel consumption of 7 litres per 100 kilometres, and CO2 emissions of 163grams per kilometre.
Terry Zhang, Chery Australia Managing Director, said Tiggo variants had already sold more than 3 million units across 80 markets globally, and he was confident of similar success Down Under.
“The TIGGO 7 Pro is an effortlessly impressive vehicle that combines style, space, and safety to deliver a medium SUV that will prove the perfect fit for Australian families,” Mr Zhang said.
Opening the batting locally, the Tiggo 7 Pro Urban will offer 18" alloy wheels as standard, including a full-size spare, as well as eight airbags and 18 driver assistance technologies, along with a driver monitoring system.
The artificial leather front seats will include a heating function, with dual zone automatic air-conditioning, a panoramic sunroof and 8-speaker Sony sound system also part of the standard trim.
Smart phone users will have the choice of Apple CarPlay or Android Auto, both with wireless connectivity, along with a wireless charger, and two 12.3" screens for the instrument and multimedia displays, including GPS navigation and the 'Hello Chery' voice command system.
Stepping up to the Elite specification, owners will gain auto-folding door mirrors, a 'God's Eye' 360-degree camera system, power tailgate, cargo blind, and an air quality management system with a 'negative ion air freshener'.
Topping out the Tiggo 7 Pro range is the Ultimate AWD, which, rather pointedly, adds an All-Wheel-Drive system, 19" alloy wheels, driver-selectable drive modes including Eco, Sport, Normal, Snow, Mud and Off-Road.
Other upgrades include an auto-dimming interior mirror, memory settings for external mirrors and driver's seat, as well as front seat ventilation.
While the official on-sale date is still to be confirmed, Chery is offering a pre-order period between September 20 and October 20, 2023, with the first 500 customers given a bonus of free scheduled servicing for the first 3 years or 30,000 kilometres.
